We funded a sound system in Namgyal Middle Boarding School, Swoyambhu.

We funded the construction of a stupa in memory of the late Mr. Wangdu Phuntsok La, Director of Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna.

We paid NC Rs. 1,72,894 for the repair and maintenance of several water pipelines and reservoirs in Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna.

We funded a new television set for Namgyal Middle Boarding School, Swoyambhu. The price of the television set was NC Rs. 1,80,000.

We contributed $500 to build a stupa in memory of Namgyal Middle Boarding School’s founding Principal, the late Mr. Lobsang Delek La. This project was initiated by his past students as a sign of respect for their beloved teacher.

2015
We raised donations for the earthquake victims of Nepal. Nearly 9,000 people lost their lives, including two of our alumni members, in a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that struck on April 25th. We provided relief materials such as emergency lights, food, warm clothes, and children’s books to the victims in Gorkha, Langtang, Rasuwa, etc. We also admitted 11 children from underprivileged families in Langtang to Namgyal Middle Boarding School, Swoyambhu, Kathmandu.

We made a generous donation of $5,025 to finish renovating the Phuntsok Deshe Hall, a Tibetan Community Center located in Woodside, New York.

On October 10th, our team participated in the volleyball tournament that was organized by the RTCY of NY & NJ to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress. Twelve different youth teams participated in the tournament and our team won 2nd place. The tournament was held at Queensbridge Park, Long Island City, New York.

On November 22nd, we aired our annual fundraising raffle draw live on our Facebook page. We raised $11,050 from this fundraising event.

On November 23rd, we raised $4,262 through a GoFundMe drive for our Emergency Relief Fund. This fund has been earmarked to extend immediate financial help to our members in need.

We raised a total donation of $10,109 to alleviate the financial hardship imposed on Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna by the COVID-19 outbreak. The total amount collected from the donors was sent to the school office on January 13th.

On March 6th, Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La, the President, launched our official website. It was developed by TibetStudio, Nepal with the basic concepts laid out by Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La.

On March 28th, we initiated a religious project to refresh the three supreme Buddhist stupas in Nepal. These stupas are (1) The Swoyambhunath Stupa, (2) The Boudhanath Stupa, and (3) The Namobuddha Stupa. We received a total donation of $10,742. Under this multifaceted project, we applied a fresh coat of paint to the stupas, changed the prayer flags, lit butter lamps, gave alms to local needy people, and hoisted lungta flags on behalf of our 125 donors. We also made donations to the monasteries to pray for world peace and happiness for all sentient beings.

On January 10th, we formed a Core Members’ Group (CMG) to generate revenue for the association and to knit closer connections with our truehearted members. On June 8th, we sent $500 to our Nepal representative, Tenzing Gyurmey La, to distribute refreshments to the devotees who come to circumambulate and pray to Swoyambhunath stupa and monasteries in its vicinity on Saga Dawa Duchen, the auspicious 15th day of the Tibetan calendar.

On July 20th, we organized a gratitude felicitation program at Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna, Nepal. Our executive member representative, Karma Shopa La, visited the school and felicitated all 51 teaching and non-teaching staff with a khata (traditional scarf), NC Rs. 5000, and a thank you letter from our President, Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La.

On September 7th, we offered a TENSHUG (Long Life Prayer) to His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama at Theckchen Choeling Monastery in Dharamsala, India. Our organization was the largest donor for TENSHUG-2022 with a contribution of $30,818.37. Overall, the TENSHUG ceremony was very successful and a blessing to all sentient beings. His Holiness expressed profound happiness for our everlasting love, respect, and wholehearted prayers for His long life!

On October 22nd, we held a fundraising Alumni NITE-2022 at Dharma House, Woodside, New York. This event allowed Namgyal alumni to meet with old-school friends and recall our glorious school years. More than 150 alumni came together from different parts of New York and New Jersey. The event was filled with entertaining games, traditional Tibetan Gorshey dance, and some Nepali and Bollywood numbers. We also shared a delicious cake with everyone to celebrate our 23rd anniversary.

On November 12th, we distributed water bottles, candies, and Tang drinks powder to the students of Namgyal Middle Boarding School at their Inter-house Annual Sports Meet-2022. The 1st place winner, Namtso House, was awarded Rs. 5000; the 2nd place winner, Youtso House, was awarded Rs. 4000; the 3rd place winner, Tise House, was awarded 3000; and the 4th place winner, Thangla House, was awarded Rs. 2000.

On November 26th, we awarded incentive cash prizes to all four houses of Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna at their Inter-house Annual Sports Meet-2022. Overall 1st position holder, Blue House, was awarded Rs. 10,000; the 2nd position holder, Red House, was awarded Rs. 8000; the 3rd position holder, Yellow House, was awarded Rs. 6000; and the 4th position holder, Green House, was awarded Rs. 4000.

On April 15, we held an Incense Offering & Lungta Flags Hoisting Event at Nechung Foundation, New York. The purpose of this event was to pray for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life and world peace. More than 70 attendees, including alumni members, their families, and friends joined this event. To begin with, ceremonial sweet rice was served at 10 a.m. to all the participants. The morning prayer session led by venerable Kushog Soepa La in their sacred chapel was effective, intense, and purifying. The large variety of food prepared by chef Tsering Paljor La was a pleasant surprise for everyone. Among the entertaining games, arrow shooting was everyone’s favorite. Overall, the event went smoothly, and everyone enjoyed it to the fullest.

On June 4th (the 15th day of Saga Dawa), we distributed water bottles and fruit drinks to the devoted pilgrims who came to pay homage to the revered Swayambhunath Stupa and the numerous shrines and monasteries nestled in its vicinity. Additionally, during this auspicious month of Saga Dawa, we embarked on noble endeavors to repair, paint, and perform the consecration ritual for three sacred statues of Lord Buddha in Swayambhu, Nepal. Through this noble project, we aim to honor and preserve the rich heritage of these statues, ensuring they continue to inspire generations to come. By applying a fresh coat of paint, we not only restore their aesthetic beauty but also breathe new life into their sacred presence. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to undertake this project, as it holds immense cultural and historical significance.

On June 24th, we held our Annual Get-Together Picnic at Corona Meadows Park in Queens, New York. The picnic area was adorned with beautiful tents, vibrant national flags, and captivating alumni banners, making it immediately noticeable even from a distance. More than 100 alumni, accompanied by their families and friends, eagerly attended the event. Among the various games and activities, the children’s drawing competition garnered enthusiasm. The picnic meals, prepared by the board members and brought from their own homes, received numerous compliments and heartfelt appreciation for their hard work.

On September 4th, the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, reached another significant milestone in its history of achievements by securing victory in The Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament 2023. The Namgyal team clinched the championship with a 1-0 win over Yak FC in the final match held at Field #10 on Randall’s Island, New York. This victory, in a tournament featuring 11 soccer teams from North America, is the most prestigious trophy that every soccer player and team strives for years to attain.

On October 7th, we hosted Alumni Nite 2023. Alumni Nite is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our old school friends and reminisce about childhood memories. This year’s event featured delicious snacks and dinner, a bingo game, dances, and party favor T-shirts featuring the Dalai Lama Cup-winning logo to commemorate our glorious victory and cherished memories. This year, due to heavy rainfall, competing birthdays and wedding parties within the community, as well as the TYC Founding Day and Lhakar Anniversary commemorations, the Dharma House was not as crowded with enthusiastic audiences as it was last year. However, we managed to sell 123 event tickets and received generous donations from our members, which made the event both successful and financially rewarding for the association. President Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, in his welcome speech, highlighted the remarkable achievements of our association under his leadership. He also presented Appreciation Letters to Ms. Tsekyi Tenzin and Ms. Palzom Tenzin for their volunteering service with our organization from 2021 to present.

On October 31st, our Nepal representatives, led by Tenzin Gyurmey La and his dedicated team, successfully delivered a generous donation of $2,883 to Lodoe Singay. Lodoe Singay, a former student of Namgyal Primary School in Nepal, was struggling with a severe medical condition marked by significant body swelling. He personally reached out to us through his social media account, humbly seeking financial assistance to cover his mounting medical expenses. We’re thrilled to have successfully carried out our association’s core mission, offering assistance to those in need, such as Lodoe Singay.

On November 25th, Namgyal Higher Secondary School hosted its 2023 Inter-House Annual Sports Meet with ceremonial splendor. Tenzin Gyurmey La, our Nepal representative, and his team graciously attended the event, honoring the winning houses with incentive cash prizes on behalf of the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA. The annual school sports meet is a significant event in the academic calendar, featuring vibrant march-past parades accompanied by the school band, raising the Olympic flag, carrying the torch relay into the arena, and the house captains taking the oath to respect the rules and participate in the competitions in a spirit of fair play. Students are divided into four houses to take part in track and field sports competitions. Parents and dignitaries are invited to join the festive atmosphere on that day. This year, the Blue House, Yellow House, Green House, and Red House respectively secured the 1st to 4th positions, with awards of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 8,000, Rs. 6,000, and Rs. 4,000.

On December 15th, our representatives from Nepal attended the Namgyal Middle Boarding School’s Inter-House Annual Sports Meet-2023. They presented cash prizes to the winning houses on behalf of our association. This year, Youtso house secured first place, earning an award of Rs. 6000. Namtso and Tise tied for second place, each receiving an award of Rs. 4500. Finally, Thangla claimed third place, earning an award of Rs. 3000. Recognizing the vital role of physical education in children’s holistic development, Tibetan schools offer comprehensive theoretical and practical PE classes. The Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, annually awards cash prizes to all four schoolhouses to inspire students and cultivate a robust school spirit.

On April 14th, we held an Incense Offering and Lungta Flag Hoisting event at Nechung Monastery in upstate New York. The event was dedicated to prayers for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for global peace. Its success was made possible by the heartfelt participation of alumni members, their families, and friends, whose presence added great significance to the occasion.

On May 23, our representatives in Nepal distributed dry food and bottled water to devotees participating in the sacred circumambulation and prayers at Swayambhunath Stupa and the surrounding monasteries. As in previous years, this meaningful initiative was sponsored by our association with the aim of accumulating spiritual merit for the benefit of world peace. According to the Tibetan calendar, this auspicious day marks the birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana of Lord Buddha.

On June 15th, the Namgyal Alumni Association organized a cleanup project at Nechung Monastery. As part of the effort, we respectfully removed and burned the worn lungta flags. Additionally, we installed eye bolt screws and spring links on ten tall trees, making it easier for devotees to raise new lungta flags in the future. We also prepared one of the best trees by installing eye bolt screws and spring links, specifically for hoisting the Dharchen (great flag). We hope our efforts enhance the environment of the monastery and enable devotees to easily raise and furl new lungta flags at the treetops.

On July 6th, we hosted a book launch event to coincide with the celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 89th birthday. The event took place at the Tibetan Community Center and was graced by distinguished guests, and thousands of local Tibetan residents. It proved to be a truly memorable occasion, with approximately 200 copies of the book sold within just a few hours་ The storybook—written and compiled by our former President, Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La—holds deep significance for our community as a means of preserving our rich language and unique cultural identity. We are sincerely grateful to him for generously donating the master copy to our association. All proceeds from the book are dedicated to supporting our welfare initiatives.

On November 9th, we joyfully celebrated the 25th Founding Anniversary — also known as the Silver Jubilee — of our association with a series of vibrant programs. The event was graced by Mr. Rinchen Dharlo La, the esteemed founder of Namgyal Hostel and Namgyal Primary School in Nepal. Over 300 gate tickets were sold, reflecting the enthusiastic participation and support for the occasion.
The celebration began with an inspiring inaugural speech by our Alumni President, Sonam Wangchuk La. Kunga Thinley La, the first President of our association, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the major accomplishments of our association since its inception.
This was followed by an insightful address from the chief guest, Mr. Rinchen Dharlo La, who shed light on the difficult living conditions faced by Tibetans in Nepal during the 1980s. He also detailed the founding, challenges, and goals of Namgyal Hostel and Namgyal Primary School, highlighting the profound guidance and tireless efforts of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Department of Education.
The day’s celebration was further enriched by a variety of performances, including modern Tibetan songs by Tenzin Woser and Tenzin Choegyal, as well as captivating cultural dances in Tibetan, Hindi, and Nepali styles by alumni members and their children. These performances added a vibrant and festive touch, making the Silver Jubilee celebration truly memorable.

On November 30th and December 21st, our representative team, led by Mr. Tenzing Gyurmey La, attended the Inter-House Annual Sports Meet of Namgyal Higher Secondary School and Namgyal Middle Boarding School, respectively. During these events, we presented cash incentive prizes to the winning houses. This has been a cherished tradition we have continued for many years to encourage and support our younger brothers and sisters in their academic journey.

On December 20th, our representatives in Nepal handed over NPR 215,000 to Ama Yangdon La, a former kitchen staff member at Namgyal Higher Secondary School in Gokarna. This amount was raised through an official appeal on our Facebook page, with contributions from our valued general members. This support was extended in response to Ama Yangdon La’s repeated requests for financial assistance, as she continued to face hardships in her later years.

On May 11th, the executive members hosted a welcome dinner for Mr. Humagain and his family, who were visiting New York City. With over three decades of dedicated service to the education of Tibetan students at Namgyal High School, Mr. Humagain remains one of the most cherished and respected figures in our school’s history.

On June 8th, 2025, we organized an Incense Offering and Lungta Flag Hoisting event at Nechung Monastery in New York, dedicated to prayers for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for world peace. The morning session featured a prayer ceremony led by the venerable Shoepa La in the main chapel, followed by the hoisting of new Lungta flags. In the afternoon, the atmosphere turned festive with entertainment activities, including several rounds of tambola and a joyful gorshey dance. The event was a great success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of alumni members, their families, and friends.

On June 11, our representatives in Nepal distributed dry food and bottled water, sponsored by our association, to devotees gathered around the Swoyambhunath Stupa and nearby monasteries. This auspicious day, as marked by the Tibetan calendar, commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing into Parinirvana. In addition, monetary alms were offered to beggars in observance of the day’s spiritual significance.

On July 23, we contributed a total of $5000 to Namgyal Middle Boarding School to support their bore-well drilling project. With the successful completion of this project, students will have access to clean and sufficient drinking water, as well as enough water for bathing, washing clothes, using toilets, and maintaining the school garden.

On November 17th, alumni from Tibetan schools in Nepal, Bhutan, and India jointly presented a heartfelt gratitude trophy to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, in recognition of His lifelong guidance and unwavering love that have profoundly shaped our lives. We are proud to share that the Namgyal Alumni Association USA played a key role in bringing this historic event to life, contributing significantly to both publicity and fundraising efforts in close collaboration with the organizing committee. Our association also made a donation of $2000 from its religious fund in support of this auspicious occasion.
