Message From the Outgoing Executive Board President

Dear members and friends,

I am delighted to announce that we have elected new executive board members, with Mr. Sonam Wangchuk La, assuming the role of President for the fiscal years 2024 to 2026. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the new executive team and wish them every success during their tenure.

My team and I embarked on this journey during a challenging period for our association, determined to bring about positive changes. We dedicated our time and efforts selflessly to rebuild it to its current stature. Countless in-person and virtual meetings were held to deliberate and strategize events and initiatives, including fundraising, publicity, and broadening our network. Today, I am overjoyed to see that our hard work has paid off, thanks to your unwavering support and trust in us. Some of the notable achievements of our term include offering Tenshug to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2022, hosting a gratitude felicitation for the staff of Namgyal Middle Boarding School and Namgyal Higher Secondary School in Nepal, and clinching victory in the Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament in 2023, among others.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for being committed members of our association. A special thank you goes out to our core members for your invaluable support. Your membership fees empowered us to make bold decisions and undertake significant initiatives, including the Lungta-Flags hoisting event at Nechung Monastery, the restoration of Lord Buddha statues in Swayambhu, and organizing a Children’s Drawing Competition on our picnic day in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

I am pleased to announce that we possess a total cash asset of $30,535.78, which will be transferred to the newly elected executive members during the transition period. Throughout this period, we will share our experiences with them and provide guidance to ensure the flawless operation of our official website and other social media platforms. In short, we will make every effort to ensure a smooth transition process, allowing the newly elected members to start without any difficulties.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to team members and representatives in Nepal and Minnesota for their sincere cooperation. I also want to extend my congratulations to all of you for the numerous successes we have achieved over the past two years, through our collective hard work in enhancing our association. My heartfelt thanks go to Sonam Wangchuk La and his entire family for their unfailing kindness and generosity in providing us with a space to hold our board meetings at their home, as well as for their hospitality in serving us tea, snacks, and meals during each meeting.

Thank you, everyone, for being such loving, kind, and supportive members throughout the years! Please extend the same level of support to our newly elected leaders, ensuring the success of their tenure, which is a source of pride for all of us.

Warm regards,

Sincerely,

Bhuchung Sherap

Dear members and friends,

I am delighted to share the wonderful news with all of you that the Annual Get-Together Summer picnic, which took place yesterday at Corona Meadows Park in Queens, was a resounding success. More than 100 alumni, along with their family members and friends, attended the picnic at various intervals, making it challenging to determine the exact number of participants. In an attempt to capture the memories of our time together, we managed to take group photos on two separate occasions, hoping to include all attendees in a single frame.

The picnic spot was attractively decorated with Tibetan national flags, alumni flags, and banners. Tents were set up to serve food, host Children’s Drawing Competitions, and provide shelter in case of rain or heat. The great news is that the weather was delightful, with no rain, wind, or heat waves. It was truly a breathtaking experience!

The homemade food served by the executive members received a multitude of compliments. There was a wide array of dishes, ample portions, and all of them were incredibly delicious! A heartfelt thank you goes out to my fellow members and their families for their assistance in preparing such delectable food items!

The Children’s Drawing Competition was another beautiful event of the day. Everyone looked enthusiastic to participate in the competition and become the winner in their respective age group. Keep up the good work!

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who joined us yesterday for the Alumni Picnic, making it a truly memorable event. Additionally, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the winners of the Children’s Drawing Competition, as well as all participants in the various games and activities we organized.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my fellow executive members who worked tirelessly to ensure the seamless execution of the event throughout the day. I am delighted to share that our past events and activities have received numerous positive comments, making every member of the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, proud to be a part of it.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support as our association grows. We look forward to more such gatherings in the future.

INCENSE OFFERING & LUNGTA FLAGS HOISTING EVENT REPORT

Dear members,

I am extremely happy to inform you all that our Incense Offering and Lungta Flags Hoisting Event held yesterday on April 15th, 2023, at Nechung Foundation, New York, was a great success. There were more than 70 attendees, including alumni members, their families, and friends. The morning prayer session led by venerable Kushog Soepa La in their sacred chapel was effective, intense, and purifying. Hoisting lungta flags was a bit challenging for our members in a positive way because of the large number of donors. Each donor received 3 bundles of lungta flags. There were a total of 178 bundles of lungta flags to raise and each bundle has 5 sets of prayer flags.

A large variety of food prepared by chef Tsering Paljor La was a pleasant surprise for everyone. Thukpa served in the evening was delectable!

Among the entertaining games, arrow shooting was everyone’s favorite. It was played in both male and female divisions.

Overall, the event went smoothly and everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. The weather was also very favorable to carry out all outdoor activities such as performing Lhabsol, playing Bingo, and dancing Gorshay.

There are many people who I am indebted to for their help and support to make this event truly memorable. This event would not have been possible without their help and support.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Nechung Foundation in-charges for accepting our request to host this important event on their property. I also would like to thank chef Tsering Paljor La for such delicious food. We all loved his food! I am also thankful to all the donors and participants for their unflinching support. Finally, I would like to thank all my colleague executive board members for being so hardworking, cooperative, and scrupulous to make the day-long event very successful. Thank you everyone for your support in many different ways. Please keep supporting us as our association continues to grow!

Our next event is a “Children’s Drawing Competition” during the summer break. Detailed information including the competition date, age groups, and drawing theme will be announced next month.

Dear friends,

Most of us have been earnestly following the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament that took place in Qatar from 20th November to 18th December 2022. We witnessed 64 matches from the best 32 teams of the world. It was only this morning; we watched the final match between France v/s Argentina at Lusail Stadium. The 22nd FIFA World Cup Championship Trophy was proudly lifted by Argentina in the penalty shootout.

To celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, we organized a FIFA World Cup Prediction Bracket Challenge. It was played by 49 participants with a registration fee of $100 for the chance to win $2000. I would like to thank all the participants for taking part in this fundraising event to support our association.

I am happy to announce that Norbu Gyaltsen La is the winner of our FIFA World Cup Bracket Challenge 2022. I would like to congratulate Norbu Gyaltsen La personally and on behalf of my colleagues. He had the most accurate predictions with a total of 163 out of 202 points.

I am also happy to announce that we made $3,200 ($2,900 from the Bracket Challenge and $300 cash donation from Norbu Gyaltsen La) and established a Sports Council Fund.

Lastly, I would like to thank the jury, Sonam Wangchuk La and Samten Dorjee La for their time and initiative. It was a job well done!

Thank you everyone once again. I hope you all enjoyed it. Happy holidays to all!

Dear members and friends,

On behalf of the Executive Board Members, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in making our Alumni Nite-2022 a great success. The event wouldn’t have been the same without you. The large number of participants at the event was a tremendous inspiration and encouragement to us. I know that some of you traveled far to make it to the Alumni Nite, and I really appreciate you coming to support us. I hope everyone who attended was able to enjoy it with their childhood school friends. As I mentioned in my welcome note, each one of us has interesting stories to share from our school time and with no doubt, the Alumni Nite is the best occasion to meet with our old school friends and refresh our minds.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all my co-executive board members for their all-out efforts to make this Alumni Nite one of the most talked about events.

I am happy to announce that we were able to sell 175 event tickets. The net profit from the event was $1,876.61.

Please continue to support us in the future as we work hard to give back to our community.

Dear members and friends,

I am very happy to say that yesterday, we held the annual get-together picnic, one of the most talked-about events of our members. More than 70 alumni members and their families joined us. The picnic spot was attractively decorated with colorful flags and banners. Three different tents were put up to sell alumni souvenirs, help members register online, and serve food items. A wide variety of mouth-watering homemade food and tea served all day round was a big WOW and enjoyed by everyone. The food items were all made by our executive members and the drinks such as water, juice, and soda were sponsored by Baro Pema (MN). Various fundraising games were played, such as sack race, marble on the spoon race, balloon bursting, tug-of-war, bingo, etc. These games were hosted enthusiastically by Sonam Wangchuk La. It was in fact an occasion for old friends to come together and refresh memories going back 10, 20, or even 25 years.

I would like to thank everyone who joined us and made the event memorable. My sincere appreciation goes to all the executive members for their excellent teamwork and meticulous preparations.

Thank you and take care!

Refreshing the Three Supreme Buddhist Stupas in Nepal

 Date: 03/07/2021

Dear members and friends,

With the beginning of the new Tibetan calendar-2148, our association is going to initiate a very auspicious religious project that was agreed upon at the executive members’ meeting held on 03/06/2021.
This project will refresh the three supreme Buddhist stupas in Nepal, namely

(1) The Swoyambhunath Stupa
(2) The Boudhanath Stupa, and
(3) The Namobuddha Stupa.

We will apply a fresh coat of paint to the stupas, change the prayer flags, light butter lamps, and give alms to the local needy people.
Our main objectives of this religious project are:

  • To pray for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and strains
  • To pray for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the great masters of all the Tibetan Buddhist sects
  • To pray for world peace and prosperity
  • To pray for our happy, healthy, and successful life

Since this is a very auspicious and rare opportunity for every one of us, we urge all our members and friends to contribute or donate any amount for the success of this project and ingrain a seed of good deed for your present and future life. We will also offer a Khata (ceremonial scarf) on behalf of every individual donor to the three holy shrines.

Please make all your donations through our official website: www.namgyalalumni.org

This auspicious project will be implemented in a joint effort with Namgyal Alumni members in Nepal. Three separate groups of alumni members will go to the holy sites on March 28th, 2021, and refresh the stupas, and perform other acts of merits as mentioned above.

On this day, if you pay extra attention to correct your attitude, avoid non-vegetarian food, and pray to the three supreme Buddhist stupas in Nepal, you will cultivate your virtues in many folds.

Thank you and take care!

Tsewang Tenzin
President

Dear friends and members,

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your contributions to the fundraising drive launched to support Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna, which was financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was all because of your enthusiastic generosity and help in spreading the word that we were able to raise $10,109 from 80 donors through the GoFundMe page. I am truly amazed by the magnitude of your generosity and support.

Today, we transferred the total collection to the Namgyal Higher Secondary School on the account title “Covid-19 Staff Salary Aid”. We also requested the school Principal to make a formal announcement to the school staff and students about our financial contribution and for an appreciation letter to our generous donors.

My dear friends and members, on behalf of the executive members of the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, I would like to thank you so much for your active participation in all our past events and activities. We also look forward to receiving your wholehearted support in our future events and activities.

We are currently working on our official website creation. The day before yesterday, we had a virtual meeting with our web developer based in Nepal. This website will be one of the important assets of our association. It will provide a member registration portal, a vast archive of achievements and events, and a donation tab. This website will allow members to create profiles and reconnect with old school friends. We will update you soon with a date to officially launch the website.

Take care and stay safe everyone!

Yours sincerely,

Tsewang Tenzin
President

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

 Date: 01/11/2021

Dear members and friends,

Tashi Delek! I am very excited to inform you all that we met our goal of raising a $10,000 donation for Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna on January 10th, 2021. Your overwhelming generosity and support to our alma mater show your pride in the education we received. I hope that this accomplishment will be forever remembered and serve as an inspiration to us all.

The topic of this drive has reconnected many of us with our old school friends. I heard that many of you met each other after so many years while spreading the word of this fundraising drive. We all got an opportunity to refresh our high school memories of the wonderful friends we met and the lessons we learned. We spoke about the teachers that influenced us in our personal life and reminisced on the extracurricular activities our school held. To sum up, this fundraising drive brought us closer than ever before, even in the midst of a pandemic. Let’s continue to stay connected for the growth and success of our association.

We will soon transfer the collection to the bank account of Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna. Following the minutes of the Board Meeting held on 2nd January 2021, we will request the school Principal to make a formal announcement of our financial contribution to the school assembly and also request an appreciation letter to our generous donors.

Thank you so much to all of you. Take care and stay safe!

Secretary
