Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting held on 10/13/2023

Attendees: Bhuchung Sherap, Tsewang Tenzin, Sonam Wangchuk, Dolma Tsering, Norbu Gyaltsen, Yangchen Dolkar, Yangdak Dorjee, and Karma Shopa.

1) Gen Tsewang Tenzin La presented the Income and Expenditure Account Statement of our Alumni Nite event held on October 7th, 2023, which showed a surplus of $1,016.36 in income over expenditure.

2) President Gen Bhuchung Sherap La noted that this year, due to heavy rainfall, local events, and commemorations, the Dharma House had fewer attendees compared to the previous year. However, with 123 event tickets sold and generous member donations, the event was deemed successful and financially rewarding.

3) President Bhuchung Sherap La lauded co-executive members Yangchen Dolkar La and Sonam Wangchuk La as the top event ticket sellers of this year. He also thanked all the executive members for flawlessly carrying out their duties in various departments, including ticket sales, party hall decoration, food & drinks, games & entertainment, and more. Notably, all these departments worked in close tandem to make the event a success.

4) The meeting unanimously resolved to collect donations for Lodoe Singay, a former student of Namgyal Primary School in Swayambhu, Nepal, who is currently facing a medical crisis with unconfirmed symptoms of Edema, resulting in severe body swelling. Members will be urged to contribute to our Zelle account at No. 646-520-7322 via our Facebook and WhatsApp platforms.

5) The meeting has also decided to continue the tradition of awarding gift prizes to Namgyal Middle Boarding School and Namgyal Higher Secondary School for their Inter-House Annual Sports Meets, with the condition that they permit our representatives to be part of the ceremony. Our regional representative, Tenzin Gyurmey La, will be informed to reach out to the schools and assist in organizing this event, thereby showcasing our affection and ties to the institutions that have played a significant role in shaping us into the active members of our community that we are today.

6) A discussion regarding the procedures for the upcoming election of executive members, set for January 2nd, 2023, concluded with an agreement to encourage our members to run for executive positions in the upcoming election. We will personally reach out to a select group of capable and prospective members, as identified in the meeting, to encourage them to step forward and serve the association for a term of two years. MINUTES OF THE VIRTUAL BOARD MEETING HELD ON 09/08/2023

Attendees: Bhuchung Sherap La, Dawa Sangpo La, Tsewang Tenzin La, Dolma Tsering La, Sonam Wangchuk La, Norbu Gyaltsen La, Pema Tenzin La, Lobsang Gyatso La, Tseten Dorjee La, Yangdak Dorjee La, Tashi Rinchen La, Tseten Lhamo La, and Yangchen Dolkar La.

President Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La congratulated all the board members for their victory in the 2023 Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament, which was organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York & New Jersey and took place from September 2nd to September 4th at Randall’s Island Fields, New York. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the board members who tirelessly worked for three consecutive days, taking exceptional care of our players, providing delicious homemade food, setting up tents for our supporters, and adorning the field with alumni banners, all while enduring the scorching sun. He further emphasized the unifying power of sports in bringing communities and nations together, highlighting that the victory in The Dalai Lama Cup 2023 had united the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, and Namgyal Ex-students worldwide. It fostered a stronger sense of belonging and pride within our alumni association.

President Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La has requested the concerned members to expedite the completion of the accounting task for preparing the income and expenditure statement for The Dalai Lama Cup 2023 tournament.

President Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La informed the board members that on Wednesday, September 6th, he returned The Dalai Lama Cup trophy and received the winning cash prize of $10,000 from the office of RTYC located at 40-17 77th Street, Queens, NY.

The board members have agreed to commence the distribution and sale of Namgyal Alumni Nite 2023 tickets to alumni members and friends starting tomorrow. To ensure the success of the upcoming event, individual board members’ duties and responsibilities have been outlined. Additionally, it has been decided to incorporate The Dalai Lama Cup logo into the current Alumni Nite poster design.

The meeting concluded with expressions of love and gratitude towards all team players, supporters, and donors. The board also extended their appreciation to the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York & New Jersey for their dedicated efforts in advancing The Dalai Lama Cup soccer tournament, driven by noble aims and objectives.

Minutes of the virtual Board Meeting held on 07/21/2023

1) The board members engaged in a candid discussion regarding the feedback received for the Annual Summer Picnic held on June 24th, 2023. As success knows no bounds, various aspects of the event were reviewed to identify areas of improvement for future events.

2) The board members unanimously agreed to extend a warm reception to the Cholsum Soccer Team players from Toronto, Canada. The team will represent Namgyal Alumni Association Inc., USA during the upcoming Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament, organized by the RTYC of New York and New Jersey. The tournament will take place from September 2nd to September 4th at Randall’s Island Fields in New York.

As part of our mutual agreement, the Namgyal Alumni Association Inc., USA will cover the team’s registration fee, provide player jerseys, refreshments, water bottles, and first aid supplies, in addition to any other necessary items. In the event of a victory, the Cholsum Soccer Team will receive 70% of the prize money.

Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, the President, said that the incentive for the Cholsum Soccer Team to retain 70% of the prize money in the event of a victory motivates the team to perform at their best, as it offers an opportunity for both sporting success and potential financial rewards. He also stated that supporting the team in this manner demonstrates our strong commitment to sports and community involvement.

3) The board members decided to organize Namgyal Alumni Nite 2023 on October 7th, 2023, at Dharma House in Woodside. To facilitate early preparation and promotion, the event announcement poster and entrance tickets will be made available as soon as possible.

Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting Held on 05/07/2023

Attendees: Dolma Tsering La, Sonam Wangchuk La, Tseten Lhamo La, Gen Tsewang Tenzin La, Gen Dawa Sangpo La, Tseten Dorjee La, Norbu Gyaltsen La, and Bhuchung Sherap La.

  1. The members of the meeting decided to organize this year’s Get-Together Summer Picnic on June 24th, Saturday at Corona Meadows Park in Queens. It was also agreed that the executive members will bring homemade food for the participants. Vice President, Dolma Tsering La will post the food menu list in our WhatsApp group for the executive members to choose one or two items of food to bring on the picnic day. 

  1. We will hold many entertaining games and activities including a Children’s Drawing Competition on Picnic Day. Members will be informed in advance to bring along their children to participate in these activities. A duty sheet of the executive members will be prepared and posted separately.

  1. It was also decided to mail Picnic Invitation Cards to all our Core Members as a gesture of our gratitude for their support.

  1. The members decided to distribute refreshments (water bottles and snacks) to the devotees who come to circumambulate and pray at the holy shrine of Swoyambhunath Stupa, Kathmandu, Nepal on the auspicious 15th day of Saka Dawa, June 4th, 2023. We will also request our member representatives in Nepal, if possible, to repaint the three large Lord Buddha Images that stood in front of the main entrance of the Swoyambhunath Stupa.

  1. Our chief member representative in Nepal, Tenzin Gyurmey La informed us that they paid NC Rs. 29,000 for tuition to help a 12th-grade student at Namgyal Higher Secondary School, Gokarna, on the behest of the in-charge-of Tibetan Welfare Association, Boudha. Tenzin Gyurmey La also informed us that there is yet another female student studying in the 12th grade at the same school who is also in need of financial help. We are very proud to mention that our General Secretary, Sonam Wangchuk La, voluntarily agreed to pay NC Rs. 59,000 to help pay her tuition fees.

  1. The executive members also decided to take part in the upcoming Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament that has been organized by the TYC of NY & NJ every year. The members who would like to take part in the soccer tournament will be requested to contact our Sports Council in-charges Norbu Gyaltsen La and Tseten Dorjee La to find out more about registration criteria.

  1. Gen Tsewang Tenzin La announced that as of May 2023, our association has a total of $29,131.86 as our current assets.

Attendees:

1) Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, President, said the year 2022 will be known as our “Outstanding Year” because of our well-crafted activities including the Gratitude Felicitation Programs held in Namgyal Schools in Nepal and the Tenshug Offering to His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama.

2) We have printed out 200 Losar Greeting Cards to wish our members a Happy Losar for the coming Tibetan New Year. Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La requested the board members to make sure that every alum receives this year’s Losar Greeting Card.

3) The members discussed the possibility of recruiting more CMG memberships this year. It was decided that all current board members will join the Core Members’ Group and become model contributing members. Additionally, all board members will reach out and convince their friends to join the Core Members’ Group.

4) Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La said that soon our members can register and pay the CMG membership fee online via our website. Our web developer is currently working on making this possible. This additional feature gives our members a convenient payment experience. One can make the payment from anywhere in the world at any time. The concept of an online membership registration feature was laid out by our media operator, Lobsang Gyatso La.

5) The board members unanimously made the decision to accept Losar Gifts from our members and friends. We will receive Losar Gifts (Donations) via our website or in person from our board members. All Losar Gifts will be deposited in our General Fund account and used wisely for our upcoming activities.

MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING HELD ON 01/15/2023

Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La presented the Balance Sheet and Income & Expenditure Statements as of 12/31/2022. The following is the account summary that reflects the current financial status of our association:

(I) Emergency Fund             –     $2,461.67

(II) Sports Fund                    –     $3,200

(III) Religious Event Fund    –     $5,978.24

(V) General Fund                –      $12,105.84

The meeting decided to send Losar Greeting Cards to all our members and friends.

It was also decided to send letters to all our Core Members’ Group (CMG) members requesting for their membership renewal as their current membership certificate expires on 01/31/2023.

The meeting also decided to send CMG Application Forms along with Losar Greeting Cards to recruit new members.

It was unanimously decided that the Sports Council will not spend over $1,000 (one thousand dollars) a year. This decision was made to ensure long term use of the Sports Fund.

The meeting also agreed to organize a Religious Event (hoisting of Lungta flags) in April 2023. The exact date and venue will be announced after scouting a proper place and date in the Tibetan calendar.

MEETING MINUTES

Executive Board Meeting Held on: 10/02/2022

Gen Tsewang La informed the board members that the Tenshug Offering (Long Life Prayer) to His Holiness the Dalai Lama that was held on September 7th, 2022, at Theckchen Choeling, Dharamsala, India was a very successful blessing to all of us. He further said that the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA, has stood out as the largest donor for TENSHUG-2022 with a total collection of US $30,818.37.

It was decided in the meeting that the board members will give ticket sales reports to Sonam Wangchuk La on October 15th, 2022. They can text or call Sonam Wangchuk La to let him know how many tickets they sold and how many are remaining. The sales reports will help our Food and Bar stewards to prepare accordingly.

MEETING MINUTES

Executive Board Meeting held on:  07/31/2022

  • Gen Tsewang Tenzin La announced that we raised a total of $29,883.37 for our Tenshug project. The money will be handed over to the Tenshug Organizing Committee that is being chaired by Gen Thupten Namdol La.
  • Karma Shopa La cheerfully briefed the members about his visit to Namgyal Higher Secondary School on July 20th and Namgyal Middle Boarding School on July 22nd, 2022. According to Mr. Karma Shopa La, the Gratitude Felicitation programs held in the schools were well received by all the teachers and staff members of both schools.
  • The members decided to buy 100 pieces of white polo-neck T-shirts and print alumni logos on both sides of the T-shirts. These T-shirts will be used as uniforms whenever needed by the executive members.
  • The members decided to give $2,500 to our Nepal-coordinator and his team members to compensate for their Tenshug travel and accommodation expenses.
  • During the meeting, it was also decided that we are not going to participate in the Dalai Lama Cup Soccer Tournament this year since our priority is to organize a great Tenshug offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on September 7th, 2022.
  • Regarding annual fundraising event, the following decisions were made by the members:

         Event title: Namgyal Alumni Nite- 2022

         Date: October 22nd, 2022 (Saturday)

         Place: Dharma House 60-06 39th Avenue, Woodside, NY-11377

         Ticket Price: $35 with dinner

         Bingo and raffle draw will be played.

         Sonam Wangchuk La has been designated as overall in-charge of the event.

  • All executive members will actively cooperate to make the Namgyal Alumni Nite 2022 a grand success. Mr. Pema Drongme Baro will be requested to design the fundraising tickets and some flyers.

 

  • Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, the President, expressed profound happiness at the overwhelming response and generosity of our members and friends to the Tenshug offering project. He said that our members have collectively created yet another milestone in the alumni history. He thanked all the generous donors for their good will and support.

    Meeting Minutes

    An Executive Committee members meeting was held on June 4th (Saturday), 2022. Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, the president, welcomed the executive members and said that he was happy to see everyone in good health.

    1. He then applauded the executive members for their collective effort to raise $3,159 for Sonam Choesang, an alumna of Namgyal Middle Boarding School who is suffering from cancer in Nepal. The collection was handed to Sonam Choesang by our Nepal representative, Tenzing Gyurmey La, on April 14th, 2022. A big thank you to all the generous donors!

    2. Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La also acknowledged those who joined the Core Members’ Group. He said members of the CMG consolidate our association with their $120 per annum membership fees. So far 42 members have joined the Group and Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La encouraged the executive members to reach out to more school friends since the Core Members’ Group serves as the lifeline of our association’s funding.

    3. The members unanimously decided to cancel one of our upcoming projects, “Refreshing the Three Supreme Buddhist Stupas in Nepal- 2022,” in order to prepare for the Tenshug Offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We have received a formal date (September 7th, 2022) for the Tenshug Offering from the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We have been waiting for this opportunity for the last two years and we can not miss it. As His Holiness is aging, it is increasingly more important to wish Him a long life by offering Tenshug. Attempting two different religious projects in a year would be financially strenuous to everyone, as such, the meeting decided to focus our efforts on the upcoming project “Tenshug Offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama”.

    4. The members also decided to send $500 to our Nepal representative, Mr. Tenzing Gyurmey La, to distribute refreshments to the devotees who come to circumambulate and pray to Swoyambhunath Stupa on June 14th, Saga Dawa Duchen, the most sacred day of the Tibetan calendar.

    5. The members also decided to organize “Namgyal Alumni Nite 2022” in the month of October. We will soon post more information such as date, venue, and ticket price on our website and Facebook page in the coming days.

    Meeting Minutes

    An Executive Committee members’ meeting was held on Saturday, February 5th, 2022. In the opening session, Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La, the president, informed the members that the association will start making small donations of $55 to the religious ceremonies that take place in the Phuntsok Deshi, Tibetan Community Center, NYC effective this month. One of our members, Ms. Metok Dolkar La, has been requested to take up the responsibility of representing our association for this task. Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La also stated that a colorful banner has been prepared for public display to wish Happy Losar. Additionally, the Core Members’ Group membership certificates and Losar greeting cards are also ready for distribution.

    The members discussed ways to help Sonam Choesang, an alumna of Namgyal Middle Boarding School, who is suffering from cancer in Nepal. The meeting unanimously decided to send $500 from the emergency relief fund of the association. During the meeting, $948 was raised from the executive members alone for her treatment. We also received $175 from Tsering Yangzom and $50 from Sonam Choephel through Norbu Gyaltsen La.

    The executive members then went on Facebook live to solicit financial contributions for Sonam Choesang and requested members to join our Core Members’ Group. The concept of forming a Core Members’ Group (CMG) is to generate revenue for the association and knit closer connections with members having exceptionally high affinity for the association and are always keen to extend help. Certificates of Appreciation will be issued to all the members of the CMG for their goodwill gesture. A renewable membership fee of US $120 per annum will be collected from each member.

    All our generous members are requested to send their donations to the executive members before February 12nd, 2022. We will send the total collection to Sonam Choesang through our Nepal-Representative, Mr. Tenzin Gyurmey La.

    Meeting Minutes

    The newly elected Executive Committee held its first meeting on January 8th, Saturday at 1 pm. This new committee of 14 members was elected on December 4th, 2021, and it is the 9th Executive Committee of Namgyal Alumni Association, USA. This meeting addressed the topics of being more active on our social media platforms, building a bigger circle, forming a Core Members’ Group, planning events to gain public attention and support, making more fundraising events, and refreshing the three supreme Buddhist stupas in Nepal.

    1) The members suggested having our own Instagram account as an additional information outlet. They also put forward their opinions to create more informative videos for our social media platforms (YouTube, website, and WhatsApp group) on different topics such as alumni history & accomplishments, ongoing events, future plans, member interviews, and board members’ meeting briefings etc.

    2) Mr. Tenzing Gyurmey and Mr. Pema Dongmebaro have been appointed as Member Representatives of Nepal and Minnesota respectively for the 2022-2024 term. The meeting also decided that we need to appoint more Member Representatives in different states where our alumni members are concentrated.

    3) Mr. Sonam Wangchuk La, the Secretary, elaborated on the concept of the Core Members’ Group (CMG), which is to knit closer connections with the die-hard members of the association. In short, it is a drive to bring together and honor those like-minded members who have high affinity for the association and are always keen to extend help. The CMG will serve as the lifeline of our association’s funding and will extend tangible support at times of need.

    4) The meeting approved making small donations to the religious ceremonies that take place in the Phuntsok Deshi, Tibetan Community Center, New York. The members also agreed to put up colorful banners on Tibetan New Year and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Birthday to wish Happy Losar and Long Live to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

    5) On the agenda of fundraising events, the members decided to hold three important events each year: an annual member get-together picnic, a cultural party, and a raffle sale. All events will be in compliance with the NYC guidance for organizing large events and gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    6) The members agreed to perform the annual religious event ‘Refreshing the three supreme Buddhist Stupas’ in Nepal this year too. We will announce the date of this event ahead of time.

    7) The meeting temporarily dissolved the Tenshug Committee formed by the previous Executive Committee on the condition to reinstate it once a formal date or notice of schedule is received from the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (OHHDL).

    1. Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La, the President, welcomed the members, who attended the meeting despite their packed weekend schedule. He then handed out the copies of the Income & Expenditure Statements of the Annual Get-Together Picnic where there was excess of income over expenditure of $1,746.37 and the Dalai Lama Cup soccer tournament where there was excess of expenditure over income of $1,400.90

    2. The meeting passed a resolution to form the Namgyal Alumni Sports Council with a goal to efficiently organize and coordinate games & sports by maintaining friendly and harmonious relationships with the alumni members.

    3. The Namgyal Alumni Sports Council members are nominated as below:

        i) Norbu Gyaltsen La        – Manager

       ii) Thupten Namgyal La     – Member

       iii) Phuntsok Tashi La        – Member

       iv) Tashi La                        – Member

    4. The meeting unanimously decided to participate in the TYC Volleyball Tournament 2021 as proposed by the sports council members that is going to be held on October 9th & 10th, 2021.

    5. After much deliberation, the members reached a decision to adopt an official alumni flag as described below:

       Flag color  :   Purple (Indication of wisdom, power and devotion)

       Design      :   Alumni logo in the center (without text)

    6. The members also debated and deliberated on the best option for the annual fundraising event-2021. It was difficult for the members to come to a consensus about this particular agenda. However, seeing the risk of the Covid-19 pandemic, the members opted to go for a raffle sale as an ambitious fundraising method.

    7. The meeting decided to hold an election of new executive members for the fiscal year 2022 – 2024 on December 4th (Saturday) 2021 at 3p.m. Candidate nomination deadline has been fixed as November 13th (Saturday) 2021 at 1p.m. Nominations can be registered by self or recommended by a friend with his/her consent.

    MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS MEETING HELD ON JUNE 12TH, 2021

    Attendees: Tsewang Tenzin La, Sonam Wangchuk La, Dawa Sangpo La, Tsering Tsomo La, Norbu Gyaltsen La, Karma Shopa La, Phuntsok Tashi La, and Bhuchung Sherap La

    The meeting began with a brief welcome address given by the President, Tsewang Tenzin La. Gen Tsewang La said that today’s meeting is especially important as it is taking place at the doorstep of two major events, the annual get-together picnic and the Dalai Lama soccer tournament. He stressed that we must prepare well in advance to make the annual get-together picnic a great success in June and to bring home the Dalai Lama soccer championship trophy in September. Gen Tsewang La concluded his address by expressing a volley of thanks to Sonam Wangchuk La and his family for providing us with the meeting space, tea, and snacks. He also thanked Karma Shopa La and Tsering Tsomo La for the delicious samosas, sweets, and cookies.

    1. Agenda: Finalize the get-together picnic preparation
    Resolution: The members prepared a Duty Sheet for the annual get-together picnic that is scheduled for June 26th, Saturday, in Corona Meadows Park, Queens. It was agreed that the executive members will bring homemade food. Food & refreshment in-charges will inform the executive members about the specific food items and amount to bring. It was also decided to call on some of our general members for help to organize the annual get-together picnic.

    2. Agenda: Review the Dalai Lama Soccer Tournament team players’ selection
    Resolution: The meeting decided to form 2 soccer teams, if possible, for the tournament based on routine practice and individual skill. It was also unanimously agreed to hire a coach to train our players. Karma Shopa La has very kindly agreed to bring water bottles for the players on the practice field.

    3. Agenda: Review new souvenir merchandise
    Resolution: The attendees examined the new souvenir items such as refrigerator magnet, buttons, iron-on patches, and soccer jerseys. According to Sonam Wangchuk La, a couple more merchandise items are on their way.

    4. Agenda: Discuss the funding proposal sent by the Youth Response Team – Nepal
    Resolution: The attendees applauded the soul concept of the Youth Response Team-Nepal to assist the COVID-19 impacted Tibetan families in Nepal. However, the meeting failed to secure approval for their funding proposal due to unavailability of grant. Nevertheless, the attendees decided to extend financial help ($250 each) to the Namgyal Alumni members in Nepal who are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

    MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS MEETING HELD ON MAY 1ST, 2021

    Attendees: Tsewang Tenzin La, Sonam Wangchuk La, Dawa Sangpo La, Yeshi Dolma La, Tsering Tsomo La, Ngawang Tseten La, Norbu Gyaltsen La, Karma Shopa La, Thupten Namgyal La, Tashi La and Bhuchung Sherap La

     1) President Tsewang Tenzin La expressed his profound happiness over the grand success of our most recent religious project, “Refreshing the Three Supreme Buddhist Stupas in Nepal” completed on March 28th, 2021. He said that this religious project was initiated with the help of Namgyal alumni members in Nepal and as such, would like to sincerely thank Tenzin Gyurmey La, the Chief Coordinator, and his team members in Nepal who gave their all-out efforts to make this project a grand success.

    2) Gen Tsewang La further said that 125 donors were associated with this religious project that netted $10,478.24 after deducting the PayPal fee of $263.76. Reading out the income & expenditure details of the project, Gen Tsewang La said the total expenditure of the project was $4,000 and the remaining amount ($6,478.2) will be reserved for future religious projects as per the resolution passed by the executive members meeting held on March 17th, 2021.

    3) The members agreed to organize the “Namgyal Alumni Friends & Family Picnic 2021”. This picnic will be held on June 26th, 2021. We will decide the venue and time, as we get closer to the date. Varieties of entertaining games such as musical chair, sack race, tug-of-war, balloon bursting, and bingo etc. will be organized and free lunch and drinks will be served.

    4) The members also decided to participate in “The Dalai Lama Cup” soccer tournament being organized by the TYC New York & New Jersey from September 4th to September 6th, 2021. Sonam Wangchuk La, the Vice-President, Norbu Gyaltsen La and Tashi La will take charge of registering players, forming teams, and fixing training schedules etc.

    5) The members also agreed to add more merchandise to our inventory. Sonam Wangchuk La and Norbu Gyaltsen La have been requested to move ahead on this matter. Souvenir proceeds will be credited to the new “Sports Fund” account.

    6) The members watched the premiere show of “Refreshing the Three Supreme Buddhist Stupas in Nepal” the edited video. This outstanding moment was aired live via our Facebook page.

    7) The meeting was concluded with a thank you note from the President, Tsewang Tenzin La, to the members who attended the meeting despite their busy weekend schedule. He also thanked Sonam Wangchuk La and his family for providing us the meeting space and warm hospitality. He also thanked Ngawang Tseten La, Tsering Tsomo La and Bhuchung Sherap La for the snacks.

    1. Mr. Tsewang Tenzin, the President, welcomed the members and expressed his happiness with the turnout in the meeting. He said it is always important to attend the meetings to share one’s thoughts and opinions to drive the association to the path of success. He thanked Mr. Sonam Wangchuk La, the Vice President, and his family for allowing us to meet at his residence and always serving us tea and snacks. Furthermore, Mr. Tsewang said that our successes in the past were a result of our excellent teamwork and overwhelming participation of our members. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported our cause in the past, financially and morally as well.

    2. Attendees endorsed and passed the ‘Namgyal Alumni Association’s Funding Criteria’ drafted by Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La.

    3. Attendees unanimously agreed to initiate a religious project to refresh the three supreme Buddhist Stupas (Swoyambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Namobuddha Stupa) in Nepal. This auspicious project will be implemented in a joint effort with Namgyal Alumni members in Nepal. The main objectives of this religious project are:

    • To pray for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and strains
    • To pray for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the great masters of all the Tibetan Buddhist sects
    • To pray for world peace and prosperity
    • To pray for everyone’s happy, healthy, and successful life

    4. Mr. Phuntsok Tashi La, the accountant, presented the financial statements as of 02/28/2021 through a Balance Sheet and Income & Expenditure lists. According to the balance sheet, the liabilities contain:

    (i) Emergency Fund -$3,468.67
    (ii) Tenshug Fund -$1,892.37 and
    (iii) General Fund -$12,343.67
    And, the total assets contain (i) Cash & Bank Balance -$17,704.71

    5. Mr. Tsewang Tenzin, the President, launched our official website: www.namgyalalumni.org. This historic moment was aired live on our Facebook page. It was developed by TibetStudio, Nepal with the core concepts laid by Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La. Although the total cost of the web creation was $800, the association paid only $500, and the remaining $300 was contributed by Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La, Mr. Phuntsok Tashi La, and Mr. Bhuchung Sherap La.

    6. Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La, the President, gave a thorough visual presentation, using a projector, of the newly launched website content. While giving the presentation, he asked everyone to browse all its content and requested constructive suggestions for improvements. The objective of this website is to connect all our alumni members living far and wide on one platform. This website displays the association’s history, pictures, updates, etc. It will serve as a great resource for all our members.

    7. Alumni coffee mugs and baseball caps with the NAA logo embroiled were sold at the venue.

    8. Mr. Wangchuk La, Norbu Gyaltsen La, Phuntsok Tashi La, and Thupten Namgyal La also expressed their thoughts and views about the meeting agendas, outcomes, and the newly launched website. They all asked everyone to consider sharing our website and to participate in our religious project of refreshing the three supreme Buddhist stupas in Nepal by making any amount of donation through our website.

    Minutes of Board Members Virtual Meeting

     

    Date and Time: 01/02/2021 at 11 a.m.

    1. In keeping with the email received from Mr. Norbu Tserinig La, Principal of Namgyal Higher Secondary School on 12/30/2020, it was agreed by the board members that the fundraising drive launched for NHSS, Gokarna, through the GoFundMe page will be wrapped up effectively on January 10th, 2021 (Sunday) at 12:00 midnight.

    2. A notice will be posted on our Facebook page informing all our friends and members that our GoFundMe page for NHSS, Gokarna, is closing out on January 10th, 2021 (Sunday) at 12:00 midnight. 

    3. Mr. Tsewang Tenzin La, President of the alumni association, will post a short video clip on our Facebook page as a final push to urge all our friends and members to donate before the closing date, January 10th, 2021.

    4. Mr. Norbu Tsering La, Principal of NHSS, Gokarna, will be notified about the closing date of the GoFundMe page created for raising donations for their school.

    5. As we know from earlier experience that it will take 2-3 weeks to transfer the donations from the Gofundme and PayPal accounts to our bank account, the alumni association enabling the school to procure the collection early will make the advance payment from our bank account to theirs.

    6. The board members consented to bear all transfer fees and service charges involved in the process of banking transactions by the Namgyal Alumni Association, USA. To put it another way, Namgyal Alumni Association will bear all transfer fees and service charges involved and will transfer the exact figure cumulated in donations to NHSS, Gokarna for “COVID-19 Staff Salary Aid”.  

    7. We will request the school Principal to make a formal announcement to the staff and students about our financial contributions. The objective behind this request is to motivate our younger brothers and sisters currently studying in the school to become responsible, contributing members of our community in the future.

    8. The board members also agreed to request the school Principal to send us an acknowledgment letter for our generous donors. This will encourage our donors to participate in our future activities.

    9. Board members will carefully and thoroughly review the contents, tabs, and template layout of our website under construction. In order to expedite the website construction, members involved in its creation will hold a virtual meeting with the web builders in Nepal and stress its completion as early as possible. Phuntsok Tashi La and Thupten Namgyal La will operate and update our website once it is fully developed.

    10. Sonam Wangchuk La has been appointed as a sponsorship agent for our website. He will act as a liaison between the sponsors and the schools (Namgyal Middle Boarding School and Namgyal Higher Secondary School) in Nepal.

    11. Norbu Gyaltsen La has been appointed as an in-charge of selling merchandise through our website. To begin with, the board members decided to sell coffee cups and baseball caps engraved with the alumni logo.
